A stop tap that will not turn needs assessment rather than extra leverage. Forcing the handle can damage the spindle or surrounding pipework and create a leak where there was none. Do not use a tool to force it or disturb a shared or external supply valve.

Record the access problem
Locate the valve without moving heavy appliances or opening building fabric. Photograph the handle, visible pipework and available space. Note whether it is completely stuck, turns without stopping the water, or leaks around the spindle. These are different problems and may need different repairs.
What a repair may involve
A plumber may need to arrange reliable upstream isolation before repairing or replacing the valve. Shared supplies in flats can require coordination with the building manager or water supplier. A replacement valve also needs to remain accessible after cupboards or kitchen units are refitted.
Preparing a Liverpool property visit
Send TradesFix the Liverpool property postcode, photographs and any access restrictions. If there is already an uncontrolled leak, describe that first rather than requesting routine valve maintenance. Knowing where the isolation point is remains useful, but do not test a visibly damaged fitting just to complete a checklist.
This is general information, not a substitute for inspecting your property. Do not work on gas equipment or live electrical parts unless appropriately qualified. If there is immediate danger, call 999. If you smell gas or suspect a gas escape, leave the affected area and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from a safe location. Do not operate electrical switches or use naked flames.
